Week 7 – 25.02.2020 – Pushing on with VFX

This week we received an update on the VFX for our previs. They were still deciding on lighting and placing cameras.  They sent us some concept work and colour palettes we all decided on. The final 2 colour palettes are the ones we settled on, so a colder and moodier atmosphere set in early evening.

Week 6 – 19.02.2020 – VFX, references and first playblast

This week we fininshed the animations of cop1, sheriff and robot, adding more key poses in the fight scene and when the two policemen first notice the robot landing on the bridge. We created a playblast of our work so far. We then gave our work to our VFX partners so they can start puttingContinue reading “Week 6 – 19.02.2020 – VFX, references and first playblast”

Week 9 – 11.03.2020 – Previs Hand-in

This is our final week of the previs project we worked on with our VFX partners. We are all very satisfied with the outcome and this final week will be used to render. However there are some things that could have been avoided, mostly communication issues with our VFX partners.  The overall feeling is thatContinue reading “Week 9 – 11.03.2020 – Previs Hand-in”

Weeks 4-5 – 12.02.2020 – Previs project, tutorial feedback with Luke.

Week 3 – 29.01.2020 – Previs project tutorial feedback

We have to first figure out how long each shot will last, then block out the characters in key poses. Something is wrong with the computer. Camera perspective in Maya is not rendering properly. This is fine for pre-vis but we won’t be able to take it any further than this low quality render. MakingContinue reading “Week 3 – 29.01.2020 – Previs project tutorial feedback”

22.01.2020 – Week 2 – Tutorial feedback – Collaborative project

The script and story need more context. Why is the robot running away from the policemen? Why does he simply fly away at the end? What is our benchmark? The robot needs a motive, does he have a power source? Did he destroy the city? Is he what’s threatening mankind? There should be more establishingContinue reading “22.01.2020 – Week 2 – Tutorial feedback – Collaborative project”

Collaborative project – Week 1 – 15.01.2020

Advanced Experimental 3D Computer Animation Techniques is a unit which will span this term and the next, a total of 20 weeks. In this unit there are 2 projects, one personal and one collaborative. We were briefed on the collaborative unit the other day and I am working with two other animators (Marianna and Gui)Continue reading “Collaborative project – Week 1 – 15.01.2020”
